Leroy's Sports Book in Nevada will again launch its invitational "Money Talks" head-to-head football handicapping contest this week with 32 of the nation's top handicappers putting up their own stake in the single-elimination battle.
Money Talks is the largest event of its kind in Nevada and features 32 well-known handicappers who put up $5,000 each in a bracketed tournament...one loss and you're done. The winner-take-all prize is $160,000 and will be determined on the finals scheduled for Dec. 28.
Match winners are determined by the best record on seven college and/or pro picks against the spread. A "best-bet" designated among each player's picks will settle any ties. Some off-shore sites that offer odds on the contestants themselves...a Calcutta if you will.
"Many of the contestants have paid consulting services...so this is a good way for the rest of us to glean some good betting insights," said Leroy's Tournament Commissioner John Salerno. "Some off-shore sites last year offered odds on the matches."
The "Money Talks" show is broadcast on radio stations throughout the state each Friday when there is some head-to-head, "live" picking.
Friday's opening match will take place at Fitzgerald's in downtown Las Vegas from 2-3 p.m. and feature former bookmaker Nick Bogdanovich vs. Stephen Norver, a gaming writer/expert with www.covers.inc. The live picks will be broadcast on KENO-AM -1460 in Las Vegas and KPLY-AM 630 in Reno as well as www.americanwagering.com
Friday evening, the live showdown will take place at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks from 7-9 p.m. when defending champion Erin Rynning, who took home $100,000 in last season's tilt, squares off with Ray Boldway, a 51-year-old from Fresco, TX. , who has enjoyed sports betting in northern Nevada for the past 30 years. This match will be broadcast on KSFN-AM-1140 in Las Vegas and KBZZ AM-1270 in Reno as well as the web site.
Sports talk KWNA AM 1400 in Winnemucca and KELY AM-1230 in Ely will also pick up the action from both shows.
All picks and standings will be posted at www.americanwagering.com
