Do you remember the first bet you ever made?
I do remember the first involvement I ever had was with football. That was in Howell’s Journal, in Howells, Nebraska and they had a contest when I was in the 7th grade, where you had to pick 12 or 20 games, something like that. And, I think you won like $5 or $7.50 and I won it, the first time I entered it and it was the only time I won it.
How old were you?
I was in grade school, like 7th grade.
Can you tell me what your most memorable bet has ever been?
Probably the most memorable was a negative deal. I bet a 10 team parlay every week and I bet a $50 10 team parlay every week and I had 9 in and I had Nevada playing SMU and I’m giving something like 13 points and I think it paid $30,000 or something. I couldn’t offset anything, I was not able to do that because a couple of the games were in limbo, but once the game had started and half way through the 1st quarter, I knew I had 9in. And now I have the last one to sweat the first score I hear is SMU 10, Nevada nothing. That part of it really wasn’t too exciting.
From the winning side, I played the horses about 3 months ago and won about $30, 000, playing the horses.
How about the biggest best you’ve ever made?
Biggest bet is probably $2,000 on a game.
What is your favorite sport?
College football, by far. That’s about all I play. I play the horses some, but it’s misplaced. You just can’t beat the game, it’s just too tough. At least it is for me. I play baseball a little bit, college basketball. Baseball would be my second biggest and I play that pretty small, but college football I play pretty good.
What is your favorite team?
That would probably be Colorado, but I have teams that will go on and off the radar. Like California. I like California a lot now, because I think they have such an outstanding coach. I follow Nebraska very closely.
Is there anything else you’d like us to know?
I was a runner, a jogger and I’ve run the Boston Marathon and 15 other marathons in my life. I’ve run in New York, Philadelphia, and the Silver State, but I’ve only run the half marathon down here (Henderson). I’m still a jogger, but everything I do now is very, very slow.
Have you entered any other contests of this kind?
Not this kind, per se. I had gotten into Leroy’s College Challenge. The first year you had it I tied for 13th and going into the last week I was 2 down and Fezzik was in the lead at the time and we had two opposites and I liked my play. But, of course, I went 0 and 2 against him. But if I go 2 and 0 against him, then we’re even and there are 5 games left.
